Mucky is BACK and ALIVE and KICKING!!


People!!I have tried so so hard and so many times to get on the net and to get on my blog, with, as you can see, no result. As i have been in several countries where communism still raines or has been a part of it's history i never even thought of the possibility of a lack of freedom in Ethiopie! Hmm...could very well be that i have been naive in not thinking about this!

BUT,....i am back! And i am safe! And i have had the most interresting and exciting month in Ethiopie!

I do not know where to begin and what words to use to describe briefly to you what i have seen, and it not ending up in a to long winded story! I have SO much to share and so many moments to describe!!And......... so many pictures to show you!

As i hopped off the airplane only 1 day and a few hours ago i am looking for time and energy to posts some blogs! For now, i can mention the 10 following things;

1) Ethiopie = beautifull and divers
2) Ethiopie = alot of kind and beautifull people
3) Ethiopie = Fresh Macchiatto's at Addis very own Kaldi's coffeeshop=Starbucks
4) Ethiopie = alot of curious people to who you are and where you come from as you are 1 out of the 10-100 tourists that have the guts to go there!!
5) Ethiopie = Enjera's, fresh MANGO's and BANANA's like you've never tasted before
6) Ethiopie =SO much POVERTY!= streetkids=young mothers and their kids etc....
7) Ethiopie = A big gap between the rich, the average and the poor!
8) Ethiopie = NGO's all over the place!!! ( doing GOOD so so GOOD work!!!)
9) Ethiopie = HIV and therefore also alot of orphans
10) Ethiopie = Orphanage Rehobot with it's 12 amazing and sweet kids!!!!

People!! You haven't given your money to the wrong project! Every Euro has counted and will still count for the 12 former street kids of Rehobot!

It has been interesting, surprising, amazing, thought provoking, provoking feelings of wanting to do more, wanting to give more, wanting to love more, confusing, hard, tough and emotionaly draining! BUT..........It was everything BUT boring!!

I will share more in detail with you on what we have bee able to do with Mucky's Euroknaller!
I can already say that project SHOES has been a great succes! We contracted a taxi-mini-bus (as is normal in Addis) to take them on a little surprise-trip to the market! The kids were exited and started singing on the bus! As it took us appr. 40 min to get to the very famous and dangerous MERCATO, Naomi and i thought "let's get them some treats to keep them bussy during the trip" ....so we bought them some lollie pops!.........After having tried on, bargained on, and visited so many shoes "soeuks"........and getting them NEW SHOES and SLIPPERS..........in the end.......it was the lolllie pop that did it all for them,: )!

My thanks to you is still so GREAT! And i will make time to write more!

Also, i have been able to get into contact with so many good organisations that, if you'dd like, someday, you yourself could go and DO GOOD WORK !

....hey,..... if I can do it, YOU can do it!

Mucky is in Addis

Hi,

Am here! Am safe, Bad inetrnet connection. Chilling with Naomi, exploring, visiting the orphanage tomorrow! So Beautifull out here, but so poor. Lost of streetkids and beggars!People kind, hestitant to what to think of me and always looking. Bold young guys calling me Ferenchi ) old word for french, meaning foreigner)..not always know what to do with their attempt to persue me...but getting use to....

Power system, working only a few days a week and randomly fals out. Nothing to hold on to but FUN with candles!

Appr. 2 weeks taking it a bit easy, traveling with naomi, exploring possibilities for our projects for the orphanage. Staying with great people that are involved in more orphanage projects with more focus on mentoring orphans and not just being an orphanage.COOL!

Now, enjoying so much the taxi rides, the markets, the people ( are beautifull) THE FRUIT here( is great!) and the sceneries!

Mucky is in Istanbul where she transfers on another plane to Addis Abeba!Free internet here...some time to kill....some business to take care off!

I have worked out what we raised!!

I don't think i have mentioned this on Saturday! Besides Mucky's Euroknaller we had also organised an Ethiopian 3 course diner @ Restaurant Kilimanjaro's (rapenburgerplein 6, naomi's auntie's place) about 3-4 weeks ago! We have used some of what we raised to fund Mucky's Euroknaller and I never thaught we'd get this far.

In total we raised E 1405,- on Saturday....and i owe you people a BIG THANK YOU for being so generous. Together with an additional gift of 500 euro's by an anonimous generous giver.......in total .................we have E 2418,-!!!!!!

People! THANKS a million for being so generous and giving SO much! I am so moved that me and my friends have been able to even get close to 2000 euro's!And I am so excited to meet the kids and explore the best opportunities to invest in these kids!

My plane leaves in a bit. I am getting ready to eat something before I jump on a plane again and will probably sleep,sleep and sleep some more as i am SO tired!

My last note to you is.......

Mucky's Euroknaller would have never been what it is now if it weren't for you!!!Stay in touch, leave me a message, follow my journey and read along what the consequenses of you given your EURO's to Mucky are!!!Also, tell me what you think is best! Next time more on what projects me and naomi have been thinking of for the kids!We want to be good to them, but also show them that they can have inpact on other people as well.

An explenation on what the deal is ..... with Mucky and her Euroknaller!!!

I am Mucky and together with some of my friends i have organized MUCKY'S EUROKNALLER; A MUSIC-ART Festival for the cause of an Ethiopian orphanage.

This summer, from May 18-June 15, I have the great opportunity to visit and work with 12 former street kids living in Addis Abeba. In October 2008, my friend Naomi Habte, decided to pack her bags and work for an organisation called" The Joshua Academy" that includes a school and several orphanages. She has been working for a recently set up orphanage called " Rehobot" for 7 months now. Also, she is teaching English at an Ethiopian school providing education for 500 Ethiopian kids, including the 12 kids of Rehobot. In May, she will have about 2 more months to go, although,...plans seem to be changing: )!!

Now what's Mucky's story?

Last X-mas I was surprised with receiving an envelop that had been waiting for me under the christmas tree. One of my relatives (my sweet Opa to be precise) had written "A ticket to Addis Abeba to visit your friend Naomi"......ps. also includes your birthday gift coming up in February! Hmmm,.....Syked,... stoked...no wait,..what's the word? ..."bedazzled"... was the lucky state I found myself in and it took me long that night to fall asleep, as I was thinking of all possible WAYS TO HELP!

As my own trust in NGO's and other humantiarian helping organisations hasn't grown over the years due to mis-management and " the money not always ending up at the places and people that need it the most", I figured........I might as well try and DO SOMETHING MYSELF!

Mucky's Euroknaller is a Music-Art festival with it's core concept being: "let's raise money for these 12 kids and prove WE can do better than Mcdonald's Euroknaller!WE want to show you what your euro's REALLY can be worth!And WE want it to be FUN and SAFE for you to give!

We are trying to raise E2000,- min. to provide the kids with basic needs as: food, clothes, shoes, backpacks, bedding, toothbrushes and paste, shampoo, medical supplies, toys, fixing of their rented house etc.... AND a FUN DAY OUT after all the hard work and English lessons of " miss Naomi": )!

As Mucky will be making a SEE-WERE-YOUR-MONEY-GOES-TO mini-documentary which she will present to you on part 2, coming september, we want to create a SAFE and PERSONAL way for you to GIVE and make change happen from a distance. Also, this blogspot will be used to report back on Mucky's journey, her adventures and the consequences of you donating your Euro's to Mucky's Euroknaller.

Mucky's Euroknaller part 1

I guess news travels fast and my invitation to Mucky's Euroknaller part 1 has reached you!

I am Mucky, and together with some of my friends I have organised MUCKY'S EUROKNALLER: a Music- Art Festival for the cause of an Ethiopian Orphanage.

Mucky's Euroknaller will take place on Saturday May 16th, from 15:00-22:00ish @ The ZOLDER (Herengracht 88, Amsterdam; right underneath restaurant "Lieve")

Mucky's Euroknaller is a Music-Art festival with it's core concept being: "let's raise money for 12 former street kids in Addis Abeba and prove WE can do better than Mcdonald's Euroknaller!"WE want to show you what your euro's REALLY can be worth!And WE want it to be FUN and SAFE for you to give!

As Mucky will be in Ethiopia for a month in May, and will work in the orphanage for 2 weeks, ALL money will be brought to and spend on the children of orphanage Rehobot!
